Today’s Red Lips Fashionista of the week is Mayra Alabi out of Providence, Rhode Island.
This Red Lips Fashionista is a cigar veteran! Mayra has been smoking cigars for over 20 years and she loves a Robusto style cigar with tequila or rum. Mayra is a descendant of the Indigenous people, who are also known as the “first people,” Native Americans. She refers to herself as a “Mayan Queen.”
She is very proud about her heritage and it means a lot to her. The historical association to the Maya civilization goes back to the pre-Columbian population and how they developed their own written language, as well as their art, architecture, astronomy and complex mathematical systems. For Mayra, she believes that these strong roots and background consists of her biological makeup, which contributes to her core values! This influence from her heritage gives her strength to persevere. Especially, since she was very close to her grandmother, another “Mayan Queen,” who introduced her to cigars, so many years ago.
I can truly see why Native Americans are so vested and connected to the origins of cigars because it relates to their history. Native Americans have a strong interest in cigars and a long history, as it relates to tobacco in general. The use of tobacco was also used in spiritual ceremonies for many different faith traditions. In their tradition, tobacco and the pipe are a holy gift, and smoking is a form of prayer for them.
Therefore, there’s no doubt as to why Mayra is a cigar smoker, it’s historical, it has meaning, it gives her a sense of pride and connection to her ancestors, as well as her faith.
Mayra and her family are a very tight-knit and close family, which she introduced her youngest daughter, Maysun, to cigars, and they have started a business called Beauty and Sticks. It is true that a mother’s and daughter’s bond is unbreakable!
Mayra is a very sweet and loving “Sister of the Leaf.” She has a lot of class and sexiness to her, and definitely, she’s fashionable and seductive!
