Tuesday’s Cigar Tips

As an avid cigar smoker, we all come up with different techniques and routines that work best for us prior to starting our smoking session and during it, and there are a few things we learn along the way. Everyone’s techniques and routines are different, based on your own preference or there can be some similarities. Therefore, to further connect with you and provide you with resources and details about cigars, I’ve created these weekly cigar tips for you to utilize.

Obsessive behavior

The art and form of cigar smoking should not have any similarities or behaviors like cigarette smoking. The purpose of having a cigar is to indulge and savor in the taste, unwind, relax, and to have great dialogue and conversations with the people around you for the time it takes to smoke a cigar, depending on the size of the cigar, which could last anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours.  Therefore, you should not “chain-smoke” cigars, as one would with a cigarette such as lighting one up, right after the other. This goes against all cigar etiquette.

A minimum resting point between cigars, at best is to wait at least 15 to 30 minutes between cigars, as anything less indicates obsessive behavior. I myself have never smoked often enough for this rule to apply. However, there have been days while out in a social setting like a cigar event or being at a cigar lounge that I’ve enjoyed 2-3 cigars, in a single setting with friends. And, many cigar enthusiasts will have a cigar with each meal, as well as one in the late afternoon before dinner, and again in the later part of the evening, before bed, which is perfectly acceptable.

As I’ve said before, cigar smoking is a passion and it’s unique to each person that’s smoking, so all caveats are based on your choice and preference. Overall, the beauty about cigars is that they produce off such a diverse flavor profile, and there’s no reason a cigar cannot be paired beautifully with each meal, a dessert, and/or even an after-dinner drink, because of their versatility.
