Today’s dapper gentleman (Dapper Gent) of the week is Albert “Amaz’n” Banawoe out of Atlanta, GA.

Albert is originally from Togo, West Africa, which is a country that’s bordered by Ghana to the West and Benin to the East. Albert is an up and coming artist, who has a distinctive flow, which is a mix of Rap, Dance Hall and R&B that gives him a very unique sound. His passion to become an artist started at the age of 14 years old, while still in his hometown of Togo. As Albert continued to refine his skills through high school and work on his craft. Over time, this allowed him in the early 2000s, to work with different groups in his county performing at some of the largest venues, which prepared him for a bigger musical scene as he moved to the United States in 2003.

Albert initially resided in Virginia when he moved to the States, but he was very inclined to pursue his passion for music, so he relocated to Atlanta, GA in 2005. And, since Atlanta is big in the music industry, especially, at the time that Albert moved there in 2005, to further pursue his interest in music, it was a no brainer for him. He knew that he had to create a name for himself and find some of the best executives and record labels to assist him if he wanted to get on the music charts. And, as a result of grinding it out, he caught the attention of some music executives. Albert has not stopped working towards his goals of becoming one of the largest West African artists.

Albert’s passion for music and his home county is very symbolic for him, because it represents him and what he stands for, as a man! Also, being from West Africa, Albert has always been familiar with cigars, as one of the most expensive wrapper leaves is Cameroon, which is a Western Africa leaf. Many cigars made by Partagas and Arturo Fuente cigars are rolled with Cameroon wrapper.

Although Albert’s familiarity with cigars started as a child, he was never formally introduced to cigars, and no one around him was cigar smokers. However, as Albert was working on his look and wanting to separate himself from those attracted to hookahs, he preferred the look of cigars more, and became an avid cigar smoker a little over a year ago, which certainly makes him a novice, a beginner cigar smoker, but Albert is just as passionate about cigars as his music.

Albert enjoys cigars such as Oliva cigars, Cohiba cigars, LFDs (La Flor Dominicana) or Alec Bradley cigars, to name a few. And, he recently has been smoking the Camachos, which he loves. And, as he put it, “when I am feeling saucy,” he will smoke a good Davidoff cigar, Partagas, Rocky Patel, or a Liga Privada. As, with most cigar smokers, if you’ve been smoking for years or just started, you can identify what your palate likes, and for Albert, he’s a full-bodied cigar smoker, who prefers full/ Maduro or Colorado Maduro cigars.

Albert enjoys his cigars while creating his music, as well as he likes to hang out at cigar bars around Atlanta. And, one of his favorite cigar bar/lounges is called The Cigar Bar in Atlanta. When Albert is having a cigar, he likes to pair his cigar with a cold beer, and/or cognac on the rocks.
