Arlene’s cigar journey started 20 years ago. Initially, she would just dabble here and there with cigars, not really having a strong passion or a true appreciation for cigars. However, in the last 10 years, Arlene found a new discovery about cigars, which gave her purpose and a true connection to cigars.

When Arlene first met her husband, who was already a cigar enthusiast, she was very attracted to him by the sight of his appearance and he possessed a certain type of dominance about himself with the cigar he had in his mouth, which attracted her to him, even more. And, as their courtship grew, he introduced her to cigars, and this truly started her cigar journey.

Also, Arlene worked with physicians, who loved to play golf and have cigars while on the golf course. And, this inspired Arlene to learn more about cigars and to study the craftsmanship of cigars. Essentially, Arlene self-taught herself about cigars to have more of a dialogue with the physicians that she worked with, as a result, this groomed her level of experience with smoking cigars and being knowledgeable. In addition, to her and her husband’s connection on cigars, it became a unique pastime for the two to share and create memories, as well as meet others that shared the same passion for cigars.

When Arlene is having a cigar such as Casa Cuba by Fuente or a Champagne by Perdomo, she likes to pair her cigars with well finely aged Tequila such as Anejo and she likes it with orange wedges and Tajin (a mixture of salt and chili powder), and/or a strong South American coffee blend or Cuban coffee.

Arlene has a Facebook group called “Grown, Sexy and Their Big Cigars.” This group is dedicated to the cigar culture, industry and lifestyle.  Arlene likes to call her members “Family of the Leaf” (FOTL) because she loves the bonds and relationships that are built amongst the members, who bring so much depth and knowledge to the group.  Arlene started this group after being denied to join an “all guys” group, and since we believe in inclusion in the cigar culture, she formed her own group, which has 1.2K members and they’re constantly growing and developing.

Arlene is our Red Lips Fashionista of the week because of her continued contribution as a phenomenal “Sister of Leaf” (SOTL), who holds others accountable, her efforts at continuing to build solid relationships are genuine, and she totally believes in inclusion across the board in this industry. Arlene is a true supporter and advocate and someone who truly wants everyone to have the best experience when having a cigar, regardless if this is your very first time, or not. She believes that patrons should all feel welcomed and be able to visit a location that’s inviting and the owners/staff makes their customers feel like family.

Also, Arlene is one very classy and stylish SOTL, who takes pride in herself and values her friendships and the sisterhood that she’s developed over the years with so many. Arlene is very devoted, committed, and remains true to herself, as being a female cigar smoker, who does not have to go through extremes, to gain and/or maintain the respect in this industry, as a female cigar smoker.
