It’s Sunday, another great day of NFL Football and an awesome Red Lips and Cigar Sticks® “Dapper Gent” feature of the week. Thank you for joining us and reading another great article here at Red Lips and Cigar Sticks®, we are happy to have you as one of our new, and/or faithful readers!
Today’s dapper gentleman (Dapper Gent) of the week is Roy Bennett, Jr. from Shreveport, LA.
Roy has been smoking cigars for 16 years. In 2003, Roy was deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq and during his time of deployment, he had his first cigar.
Roy’s introduction to cigars begins with his father, who was a pipe smoker in the late ’80s and being a huge fan of old classic movies. Roy loved the aroma of the tobacco that his father would put in his pipe and he admired the style of old Hollywood. Though Roy was fascinated with the culture, he did not have his first cigar until he arrived in Iraq. While on a mission to recover some damaged military equipment that was going to a Museum, there was a gentleman in the vicinity overseeing the civilian side of the mission smoking a 60-gauge cigar. Therefore, Roy approached him and struck up a conversation about it and he offered a cigar to him. This gentleman gave Roy a quick tutorial on how to cut, light, and smoke a cigar and this was the official start of his cigar journey.
As Roy’s palate evolved, so did his love for Scotch and Bourbon. And, a few of his favorites are Macallan 12, Glenlivet 12, Blanton’s, Woodford Reserve, and Knob Creek, to name a few.
Roy is a huge fan of Drew Estate, he loves their Undercrown Maduro Churchill and H. Upmann. He also likes cigars by AJ Fernandez Toro (Blue label) and their Connecticut by Grupo de Maestros Toro, as well as AJ Fernandez Last Call. Also, the Romeo y Julieta Romeo San Andres Toro. He’s also not a stranger to the Boutique line of cigars such as Kafie1901 brand, Definition Cigars, and Cesar Ramirez-Hidalgo’s Bariay 1492 cigars.
Roy is an active member of the Shreveport Afro-American Cigar Society (S.A.C.S.), which he enjoys the brotherhood that is shared amongst the group and being a part of the cigar culture. Roy is prideful about the culture being nonjudgmental and having such a rich history behind it such as etiquette and sophistication.
Roy really loves the conversations that take place over cigars and scotch.
Also, Roy is a phenomenal photographer! He attempts to apply the same passion he has for cigars when capturing intimate moments shared with a quality cigar and a soothing drink.
Roy is our Dapper Gent of the week because to him, Fashion is another form of communication, to be yourself and show others. Roy believes that Fashion influences our moods and it’s cultural.
“Overall fashion is important to me as a man, especially since I will typically be judged by two things well before I speak, so the presentation of an image must be on point. I’d describe my style as classic.”
