Forever 21 has been a great store for its prices and trendy fashion choices that’s budget-friendly for the average everyday shopper. The store might be considered a “Teen” store, but for me, it’s my go-to store for fashionable outfits on a budget. Shopping at Forever 21, allowed me the freedom of putting pieces together to create my very own look that was not boring or overly priced, to have a well-polished look!
It’s very unfortunate that another great business such as Forever 21 has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. It is evident that the influx of online trendy boutique stores has caused a major ripple in shoppers’ behavior. What we know as the conventional way of shopping (the old way of shopping) is out the window and in with the new (online boutique stores), which has certainly turned shoppers away from malls and strip malls, to having a more customized shopping experience by way of these new trendy stores.
Forever 21 was founded in 1984, along with other fast-fashion chains like H&M and Zara, which are two other stores that I frequently visit and shop at. However, this recent bankruptcy marks another dramatic fall for retailers. What Forever 21 is majorly suffering from and countless other businesses and that’s not rebranding themselves.
“The world has changed, and Forever 21 didn’t change with it,” said Stacey Widlitz, president of SW Retail Advisors. “And the walls closed in, in terms of the competition.”
In terms of fashion, Forever 21 is still very much a great source of inspiration for fashionable looks and ideas.
Their Instagram page has 16.4m followers, they’re still posting very cute and trendy looks within the last 12 hours, and they seem to be pretty much moving along with business as usual after Sunday’s filing.
Here we are on October 1st with temperatures still in the mid to high 80’s in North Carolina. I’m really waiting on Fall to be in full effect to sport some new looks from Forever 21, along with catching some of these major sales that are currently being offered, and more to come as they liquidated.
It used to be that fast-fashion retailers would embrace one big global trend and push it to their stores. Now, they’re contending with lots of micro trends such as social media influencers. In order to withstand and remain relevant, retailers like Forever 21 and others need to come up with smaller deliveries of more diverse clothing to cater to different shoppers’ tastes, which is the key to surviving as a leading clothing store in today’s world.
