Tuesday’s Cigar Tips: How to Have a Successful First Date at a Cigar Lounge (non-smoker or novice)

There is a great deal of detail, preparation, and processes that goes into the creation of a premium cigar. Outside of the known particulars that cigars are made up of a variety of tobacco leaves that comes from different regions of the world that push off different flavor notes, it’s crucial to know the anatomy of the cigar. And, that consists of three major parts: wrapper, binder, and filler. The wrapper is the visible outer leaf cover, as well as where the cigar band is wrapped around.

The cigar is cut at the cap, held at the body, and prior to smoking, the foot is toasted to ascertain it’s properly ignited.

The key points above are the most valuable knowledge of information that you’ll need prior to attending a location with your date. And, they would be impressed to see that you’ve brushed up on your knowledge, and/or have done your research.

There are different types of dress codes for each lounge, so it’s imperative to be aware of those before visiting a lounge for the first time. And, if you’re on a date with a person, who regularly attends their local lounge, then they can abreast you of the house rules and so forth. For the most part, cigar lounges can get really smokey, which is all contingent on the ventilation system. Even with the most up to par systems, you’ll still be exposed to an abundance amount of cigar smoke, so the smell will definitely still penetrate your clothing, attire, hair, footwear, and most fabric-like particles.

I would recommend wearing something that you can take off easily and wash, to avoid creating a dry cleaning expense, unnecessarily.  Also, specifically for ladies, I would highly encourage you to avoid carrying your everyday purse into the cigar lounge, because if you’re not accustomed to the smell, the next day, the smoke will be embedded in the lining of your purse, including leather and designer bags.  This might catch you off guard as you go to reopen your purse for use the next day. Instead, you could possibly only carry in the wristlet of your matching purse or a designated clutch, wallet, bag, or purchased cigar pouch.

Another note, some lounges do have a fully stocked bar and others are B.Y.O.B, either way, don’t worry about the details and particulars, come to the lounge with an open mind and experience the culture, which is very inviting, fun, and exciting.

There’s certified and experienced tobacconist that works in each cigar lounge, who can further direct, guide, and provide cigar recommendation for yourself, and/or accompanying date.  Trying something new or being inexperienced can always bring forth hesitation and anxiety. And, if you’ve never smoked a cigar before, you can experience the same sense of overwhelmedness.
